Well, that was quite a journey and it was empowering at the same time. So if you have seen the free videos you can see, yes , I have a large tum. I am overweight but don’t judge. We are all on a journey and my tum is not a reflection of my fitness. When I signed up to train as a Pilates instructor the course was being run in Cardiff, then the training company rang and told me that they weren’t training in Cardiff any more could I travel. Now the thought
of me travelling any where other than to and from Cardiff and to and from Tenby put me in a state of panic. I was recovering from a crash, I was not comfortable driving out of my comfort zone, but hang on, I just paid for this course!
First part of the course was being held in Oxford. Oxford!!!!. So, before the course started I drove to Oxford with a friend for support. I did it. When the day of the course came it ran over 3 days, so not only was I driving alone to Oxford but staying in a hotel by myself. I went up the day before took my time and arrived safely. I joined the course on its first day and was feeling very intimidated by the other participants, guess why. They were all slim and really fit. I persevered. After the course finished I went back to the hotel room, and this guys is were the empowerment came in. I had never in my life been anywhere on my own. I had never stayed in a hotel by myself. I asked reception where the best place was to eat. They got me a taxi and I went to a fantastic restaurant. Thoroughly enjoyed.
The next day we had to take a session and teach an exercise to the group, I totally pooped myself. There’s me, this fat girl, teaching a bendy exercise to a group of young fit people. I did it! During that day I made friends with the lovely Emma. We are still friends. She was also in the same hotel on her own. We teamed up and went out back to that restaurant, Emma had a blue steak... yuck, and we had a few drinks.
Next day was exam day. We had to teach a session. Again, totally intimidated but I pushed my way through it. When the day finished, I drove back to South Wales. Pheww!!! That bit was over.
The second part of this course was in Oxford again. Still had those nerve racking feelings about driving and taking part in the course.
Third and fourth part..... not in Oxford.... In Portsmouth! OMG!!! How am I going to get there? Planning is key here. I drove to Portsmouth by myself, stayed in this gorgeous hotel and enjoyed the course and also the Portsmouth restaurants. It has become my new place to go to. The forth time was assessment time, I had by now taken several Anatomy and Physiology exams, principles of Pilates exams and Health and Safety. I had put together a 12 week plan, my poor husband had been my guinea pig and had been doing my exam session 3 -4 times a day for about 6 weeks. We went to Portsmouth, he was my body for the exam and I smashed it. At this point that you have to take on board that size doesn’t matter, it is your ability and passion that shines through. I still don’t like driving though!!!
Thanks for reading.
