My Pilates Journey

Updated: Oct 25, 2022

Hi, my name is Sarah. I am a qualified Pilates instructor. I have been teaching for nearly 3 years. I trained in Mat 3, Orthopaedic, pre and post-natal and small equipment. I am also a registered member of CIMSPA. I am a married mum of 5, living in South Wales not far from Porthcawl. I also have a main job, a case worker working in frontline homelessness.

I started Pilates after a horrific car crash just over 4 years ago. I already had a back injury from nursing which I finished in 2007. I struggled with my back for years and slowly the weight piled on mainly due to having periods of not being able to move. After my car crash, I injured the whole of my right side, broke my ribs, had a head injury and broke the tiny bones in my ear. This has left me with tinnitus, and I suffer with vertigo occasionally. However, I recovered from my other injuries and improve my spinal mobility quite quickly after that crash. Yes, you guessed it, I found Pilates. I started with absolute beginners’ classes, but in the first 6 weeks I did 1-1 sessions, then I did both 1-1 sessions and I started group classes. Within 12 weeks I was making a good recovery. 1 year on I had completely recovered and started training as a Pilates instructor. I developed a passion for Pilates as it got me moving and I benefited so much from it. I want you to get moving and experience that same

benefit.

This absolute beginner’s course has been broken down to each individual exercise and then short sessions. It has been planned this way for you to get to grips with what each exercise entails, build your self up and then move to the sessions. There are modifications and adaptations throughout. For example, if you cannot hold both legs up off the floor, don’t worry use that adaptation. Also, I don’t care what your size is, what your fitness levels are and what your ability is. I won’t you to move. I hope you enjoy the course, any questions get in touch.
